How to Correct a slice

The most common problem with a beginner golfer's game is the dreaded slice. Every beginner
golfer knows the feeling.  You hit the ball and it starts to move right and even further right
until the ball disappears from view! It makes it very hard to get around a golf course when
everything is going way right (and left for left-handed golfers).  This is usually caused by
having an open club face at impact.  So I'm going to try to give out some tips to keep the
clubface square at impact and correct a slice.

-One of the simplest ways to correct a slice is to take a stronger grip.  What this means is
that you want to rotate your grip clockwise when holding the club and looking down at your
hands. The reason it’s called a strong grip is because it gives your hands a stronger feeling
in your swing. When you set your grip up in this manner it forces your hands to turn over
sooner resulting in the clubface becoming squarer at impact.

-Another common mistake by the beginner golfer is letting their right arm seperate from
their body. Some golfers will call this position of the right arm "a chicken wing arm." This
problem causes you to follow through with the club in an open position. For people who are
new to the game of golf I suggest that you try to keep the upper part of right arm from
separating from your chest throughout your whole swing. This will allow your forearms and
hands to rotate through your swing helping to correct a slice.  You may notice that some
advanced golfers will let their right arm separate from their body at a right angle to their
side.  They do this to create a little more power and club head speed in their swing.  This
moves may take many, many hours of practicing and should not be attempted by beginner
golfers.

-The next adjustment you want to make is to make sure your left foot is turned slightly
outwards.  If you look at your foot like it is a clock hand, you want your foot pointed at
10 o clock.  This allows your hips to rotate through the shot correctly to help correct a
slice. This may feel uncomfortable at first but you will see very quickly that is helps you
get your hips and shoulders out of the way.

These are just a few things you want to work on to help cure your case of the slices.
Practice these tips that I have provided for you and you will see the ball start to fly
farther and straighter.  This will give you a better love for the game of golf when you're
able to move around a golf course like the designer intended. You won’t have to worry about
the ball going in the trees or the water every time you tee off.  When you correct a slice in your swing you have more confidence when swinging any club you have in your hand.
